How to Wash and Care for Your Silk Eye Mask
Your silk sleep mask was made to last — but only if it’s cared for properly.
This guide covers how to clean, dry, and maintain your mask to preserve its softness, shape, and skin-friendly benefits for the long term.
Washing Instructions
Hand Washing (recommended)
Hand washing is the gentlest method and helps preserve the silk’s quality.
- Fill a clean basin with cold water
- Add a few drops of silk-safe detergent (pH-neutral)
- Gently swirl your mask for one to two minutes
- Rinse thoroughly with cold water
- Press gently between a towel to remove excess water (avoid wringing or twisting, this can damage the fibres.)
- Lay flat to dry or hang in a well-ventilated space, away from sunlight.
Machine Washing (use with caution and occassionally only)
If needed, you can machine wash using these precautions:
- Use a delicate cycle with cold water
- Place the mask inside a mesh laundry bag
- Wash separately or with other delicates
- Avoid spinning or high agitation modes
We recommend hand washing wherever possible to extend the life of your mask.
Drying & Aftercare
Drying Your Mask
- Air dry flat on a clean towel or hang gently
- Avoid tumble dryers or direct heat
- Never dry in direct sunlight, which can fade the silk
Steaming & Ironing
- You can steam gently to remove wrinkles
- If ironing, use a silk-safe setting and press very gently with a cloth barrier
- Never apply heat directly to the silk
This helps maintain the smooth finish without damaging the fibres.
Ongoing Care
How Often to Wash
- Wash every 1–3 weeks if used nightly
- After travel or skincare-heavy days, wash sooner
- Always dry completely before storing in the pouch or using again
Extra Tips
- Avoid bleach, stain removers, or fabric softeners
- Keep away from rough items (zips and hooks) to avoid snags
- Store your mask in its care pouch between uses or while travelling

FAQs
What kind of silk do you use?
We use 6A Grade Mulberry silk, the highest quality silk in the world, at 22 momme weight. Each mask is custom-refined with our SlipSilk™ finish for unmatched softness, and shine.
What does 6A grade silk mean?
It’s the highest grade of Mulberry silk, known for its long fibres, smooth texture, and luxurious durability.
What’s the difference between momme and thread count?
Momme is the weight and density measurement for silk, similar to thread count for cotton. At 22 momme, our silk is luxuriously thick yet breathable, ideal for daily use and long-term durability.
Is your silk safe for sensitive skin?
Yes. Our silk is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, meaning it’s been tested for harmful substances and is safe even for the most sensitive skin. It’s hypoallergenic, breathable, and incredibly gentle.
Is your silk sustainably made?
Absolutely. Our silk is both OEKO-TEX® and GOTS certified. It’s made using organic farming and ethical production practices, free from harmful chemicals, and kind to your skin and the planet.
Will your sleep mask help with wrinkles and hair protection?
Yes. Silk is naturally low-friction, which helps prevent sleep creases, fine lines, and frizz. It glides over your skin and hair to minimise tugging and reduce breakage overnight.
Do your masks block 100% of light?
They do. Our wide-fit design, full coverage, and plush padding create a true blackout experience, perfect for light-sensitive sleepers, shift workers, and frequent travellers.
What kind of sleepers is your mask designed for?
Everyone. Our adjustable, no-slip strap and contoured fit make it ideal for side sleepers, back sleepers, light-sensitive minds, travellers, new mums, and anyone who wants uninterrupted rest.
What’s the difference between Silk The Label and other silk masks?
We don’t just use premium materials, we design for real-life sleep. Our mask solves common issues like slipping, tight elastics, and light leaks while offering a luxurious feel and secure fit. It’s silk that doesn’t just feel good, it works too.
How do I care for my silk mask?
Hand-wash in cold water using a pH-neutral detergent. Lay flat to dry, and avoid twisting or wringing. With gentle care, your silk mask will maintain its softness, structure, and shine over time.
